LAA welcomes debate on traceability of meat products
13th February 2013
"The Livestock Auctioneers Association has welcomed renewed debate on the traceability of meat following the discovery of horsemeat in some supermarket products.
Chris Dodds, Executive Secretary of the LAA, said it was important that the consumer felt confidence in what they were buying, and this must be reflected in clear labelling and reassurances from the industry on all levels.
"The livestock markets in the UK guarantee traceability to all their customers who can pass this on to their consumers down the line. The market is a truly open and transparent system where you can see what you're about to buy," he said.
"The LAA welcomes the investigation into this scandal and will be pleased to work with others in the industry to ensure that consumer confidence in meat is fully restored," he said.
